SPRINGHILL, NS - Cumberland South MLA Jamie Baillie is pleased that the Lower Maccan Road will be completely resurfaced in the summer of 2012.
"After many years of lobbying, the Lower Maccan Road is finally getting the attention it deserves" said Baillie.
The 13.7km Lower Maccan Road is scheduled to be double chip-sealed in its entirety this season, according to the recently released 5-Year Highway Improvement Plan.
"Residents of the Lower Maccan Road have been waiting many years for this work to be done and now it will be," said Baillie. "I have had many discussions with Transportation Minister Bill Estabrooks and I am pleased that he has provided the funding to get this work done."
Other Cumberland South work scheduled to be done this year includes 5.8 km of Trunk 2 at the West Brook Road, and the completion of the Springhill Junction Bridge. Baillie says both are important projects to the south Cumberland area.
Baillie also noted the Lynn Mountain Road Bridge has finally appeared in the 5-Year Highway Improvement Plan for "replacement/rehabilitation" but not until 2016.
"Although I am pleased to see the government recognizes the need to deal with this bridge, 2016 is too far away. I will continue to work to get this bridge done sooner," said Baillie.
