WINDSOR, NS – Hants West MLA Chuck Porter is applauding the federal Conservative government's decision to scrap the wasteful and inefficient long-gun registry.
“The time had come to stop making farmers and recreational hunters feel like criminals by forcing them to register their long-guns,” said Porter. “I'm pleased the federal Conservative government stepped up and got rid of the federal Liberals’ billion-dollar bureaucratic boondoggle.”
The vote to scrap the long-gun registry occurred Wednesday in the House of Commons. All Nova Scotia Liberal and NDP Members of Parliament voted against scrapping the registry and in favor of continued wasteful spending.
“The long-gun registry didn’t prevent criminals from getting weapons and committing crimes, but it did waste precious taxpayer dollars,” said Porter. “This failed registry will soon be behind us thanks to the hard work of the Nova Scotia Conservative team.”
The PC Caucus says they will continue to put pressure on Nova Scotia's NDP government and urge them not to replace the federal registry with one of their own.
