FACT CHECK: NDP misrepresent jail numbers

HALIFAX – The Progressive Conservative Caucus is clarifying an erroneous statement from today’s Department of Justice release regarding the location of the new correctional facility.

The release states that the “previous proposal would have built two 50-cell facilities in the region.”
 
In documents obtained through a Freedom of Information request, the Progressive Conservative Caucus confirmed that the NDP government has misrepresented the original proposal as two, 50-cell facilities.
 
FACT: The original proposal was for one, 100-cell double capacity facility in Antigonish and one, 50-cell double capacity facility in Springhill.
 
The proposal would have seen a total of 150-cells with a 300-bed capacity.
