INVERNESS, NS – The NDP government has grown so out of touch with the reality for families in Nova Scotia that they consider taking $743 in higher HST from every person to be “making life more affordable.”
“Life is not more affordable for families in Inverness County and the Strait Area,” said Inverness MLA Allan MacMaster. “The NDP, thanks to their HST hike, are taking an additional $743 from every man, woman and child, but we have nothing to show for it.”
MacMaster says the NDP are letting Inverness schools and hospitals down by cutting classroom positions and front-line health care workers while refusing to find cost savings in administration and the bureaucracy.
“People in Inverness want to know their government is putting their best interests first, but under the NDP that just isn’t happening,” said MacMaster
“The NDP government says they’re making life better for families, but when we’re paying the highest taxes in the country and the second highest power rates I think it’s clear life in rural Nova Scotia has gotten worse.”
MacMaster says the NDP should take a close look at what other governments across Canada are doing and look to reduce spending without asking families to pay more.
