HALIFAX, NS - Communications Nova Scotia’s top official confirmed that the approval process for the NDP's taxpayer-funded political advertising ends at the Premier's Office.

"The NDP have turned Communications Nova Scotia into the propaganda arm of their government," said Progressive Conservative MLA Alfie MacLeod. "The Premier’s Office is calling the shots on the advertising."

HALIFAX, NS – Taxpayers aren’t the only Nova Scotians wondering how we will afford higher than budgeted wage costs.

Capital Health administrators planned for one per cent increases when preparing their budget. Today the Premier was not clear about how much the hospitals will have to contribute to the higher than expected costs in last week’s last-minute contract settlement.

“Nova Scotians expect their Premier to know the...

MacLeod says denial is "morally wrong"

SYDNEY RIVER, NS - Today in the Legislature, Cape Breton West MLA Alfie MacLeod continued calls that the Minister of Community Service is losing sight of her obligation to protect those in her care.

Recently, Minister Denise Peterson-Rafuse showed questionable judgment when she published a confidential report on Talbot House, a report riddled with suggestive allegations against Father Abbass.

"The...

HALIFAX, NS – PC MLA Alfie MacLeod said that two NDP ministers’ failure to answer questions about their handling of the case of an alleged abuser working at a daycare strongly suggests they are trying to cover-up what really happened.

MacLeod and other PC MLAs have asked very specific questions of the Community Services Minister and Justice Minister. Today, in the House of Assembly, both Ministers failed to agree to answer the specific questions put to them about who...

HALIFAX, NS – Cape Breton West MLA Alfie MacLeod presented a petition in support of repairing the Grand Mira South Road with over 375 signatures in the Legislature April 2.

SYDNEY RIVER, NS – Cape Breton West MLA Aflie MacLeod says the Minister of Justice’s cavalier attitude towards vulnerable kids and youth is putting them at risk of ending up on the street and not receiving the help they need.

Operating since 2005 in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality, CATCH (Children at the Critical Hour) is an early intervention program for children engaging in activities that could eventually land them in the justice system.

At the end of this week,...

SYDNEY, NS – All Progressive Conservative MLAs are all taking part in the 2012 Take your MLA to School Day, this Friday, March 2nd, making it clear that the PC Caucus has made education a priority.

Eleven NDP MLAs, including Premier Darrell Dexter, Education Minister Ramona Jennex and Finance Minister Graham Steele have, to date, refused to participate.

“Leadership comes from the top,” said Cape Breton North MLA and PC Education critic Eddie Orrell. “When I heard that neither...

SYDNEY, NS – Cape Breton’s Progressive Conservative MLAs are applauding the federal Conservative government's decision to scrap the wasteful and inefficient long-gun registry.

“Rural Nova Scotia has been waiting a long time for this,” said Victoria-The Lakes MLA Keith Bain. “I'm pleased our Conservative government did what was right and thanks to the hard work of the Nova Scotia Conservative team, this failed registry will soon be behind us.”

“The long-gun registry has been...

NDP inaction could have resulted in disaster for local residents

SYDNEY, NS – Cape Breton West MLA Alfie MacLeod says he is pleased that after four months of advocating for the removal of the MV Miner, the efforts have finally paid off.

Reports earlier this week indicate Arvina Navigation has authorized two salvage companies to work with the federal and provincial governments to finally get rid of the abandoned ship. MacLeod says Premier Darrell Dexter should have been more...

SYDNEY, NS - Cape Breton Progressive Conservative MLAs will meet with District Health Authority CEO John Malcolm on Monday regarding the newest outbreak of C.difficile in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

"We want to hear from Mr. Malcolm if there is more that can be done to put an end to this persistent and serious matter," said Cape Breton North MLA Eddie Orrell. “It’s a very unfortunate situation when ‘exposure to the healthcare system’ is considered a risk factor for a deadly...
