SYDNEY, NS – Supporters of Talbot House have begun an online petition encouraging the NDP government to correct their mistake and reinstate funding for the addiction recovery facility.
Victoria-The Lakes MLA Keith Bain is asking Nova Scotians to support their efforts.
“I’m hoping that if enough Nova Scotians sign their name to this petition, the NDP will realize this issue isn’t going away,” said Bain, also the PC critic for Community Services. “The Minister of Community Services needs to start working with Talbot House’s Board of Directors, instead of against them, to get the addiction recovery centre back up and running.”
NDP Community Services Minister Denise Peterson-Rafuse went back on her word to the Talbot House board and opened a request for proposal (RFP) for addiction recovery services in Cape Breton.
In April, the Progressive Conservatives demanded the resignation of the NDP's Community Services Minister over her handling of the Talbot House affair and her inaction regarding an alleged abuser at a daycare. Dexter stood by his Minister saying he is "very proud" of her performance. Bain renewed his call for Premier Dexter to fire his incompetent Community Services Minister.
