SPRINGHILL, NS – Residents on the Lower Maccan Road will see a complete resurfacing of the road over the summer months that will make it safer for use, says Cumberland South MLA Jamie Baillie.

The tender was awarded to Cumberland Paving & Contracting Ltd. (part of Miller Group). Ditching and culvert work has already begun on the 13.7km Lower Maccan Road. It is scheduled to be double chip-sealed in its entirety this season, according to the 5-Year Highway Improvement Plan.

“I am delighted that the Lower Maccan Road will be made safer for motorists,” said Baillie. “After years of frustration, it is good to finally have the work started.”

Project costs are expected to be approximately $1.75 million.

Baillie also says work is progressing on other transportation projects in Cumberland South:

·         Trunk 2, Southampton to West Brook: ditching and culvert work is complete and the first lift of pavement is already down;
·         Springhill Junction Bridge: mostly complete and open to the public but there will continue to be some sporadic lane closures for the next few weeks to finish up last minute work; and
·         Hansen Bridge, between Springhill Junction and Little Forks: project has gone out to tender and is expected to close at the end of this week.
