INVERNESS, NS – Inverness MLA Allan MacMaster says all PC MLAs are taking part in the 2012 Take your MLA to School Day, this Friday, March 2nd, making it clear that the PC Caucus has made education a priority.

MacMaster will be spending Take your MLA to School Day at the Inverness Education Centre. However, 11 NDP MLAs, including Premier Darrell Dexter and Education Minister Ramona Jennex have, to date, refused to participate.

“The NDP claim that making to school boards do more with less won’t impact classrooms but they’re refusing to go into those same classrooms to see first hand the struggles our educators face,” said MacMaster.

MacMaster acknowledged that schedules fill up quickly but noted invitations were extended to MLAs in December 2011 for the event taking place in March 2012 – lots of time to make it work.

On average, boards are expected to cut 1.3 per cent of their funding for the 2012/2013 year. The South Shore, Cape Breton and Strait boards will actually see 2.1 per cent cut from their annual budget.
